BOXING: THEN AND NOW

50.jpg

Boxing is probably one of the world’s oldest sports which dates back to the ancient times. The fighters then wore no padded gloves on their hands, but only simple ones with clothe wrappings going down their elbows; apart from these things, boxers from the past fought with each other naked. During the 18th century in England, boxing was a legitimate way to handle and settle disputes, and when done under specific rules and guidelines, was considered an actual sport. Throughout the 19th century, both amateur and professional fighters abounded, taking up the sport for the prize money it entailed. By the 20th century, women’s boxing became a part of the sport, and continues until today.
